Right there, that assumption itself is incorrect. Neither yoga nor tantra assumes that god created this universe. Both practices are pretty practical and objective. God is just a symbol for a yogi or a tantric. Its a logical question, but absolutely impractical. Vedantha never advocates every person on this earth to take sannyasa. You can be a householder and still attain mukthi. Sannyasa is only one of the forms to reach god. Tammudu, There are many paths to reach god. Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga etc. But for all these, desire and attachment must be relinquished. Even a householder can attain mukti. As far as i know tantra is a branch of kashmir shaivism...there is a book by abhinava gupta on kashmir tantra....the concepts of kundalini chakras and spiritual energy(semen) flow from anus to head through six chakras are from tantra...it has two branches leftist and rightist.....rightist try to follow middle path with proper relationships and try to understand the relationship between nature,god and desires without completely negating bodily urges....this path is not that much different from the path of common householder....in left handed tantra the extremes of coarse human animalistic desire are experimented without any concern for relationships, likes and dislikes....they do whatever comes to their mind | ||

I have a basic question, may be stupid, whatever I read so far stresses that getting rid of human pleasures, and attachments (sarvasya saranagathi) is the only way to reach God. it is not indulging, i think. What I meant is that yoga strictly advocates sexual restraint, but tantra doesn't. To add on Der's comments.. Tantra is also a way to reach God. Hinduism sanctions multiple ways for the same effect. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa practiced tantra himself and understood it to fulfill the same goal. But he did not advise it to any of his disciples as the method is not appropriate for everyone - As it involves use of dark ritual practices. | ||

They themselves are scriptures and they go as back as that of vedas. So scriptures acceptance or rejection is out of question. Before islamic invasion those practices were wide spread. You can see them even now in allahabad and some other areas. There are milder forms of tantra like madhyama paksha etc. in fact sankaracharya himself authenticated one of the forms when he visited a temple in kashmir. Yes, its the negative energy that is tapped in those practices. Beg to differ ishan bhayya...tantra prescribes an injunction(is an injuction)...all the agamas prescribe that tantra places more emphasis on the the ritual and prescribes that mere philosophical handwaving and stasis of an yogic state is not enough...but one needs to adhere to a strict physical regimen... Tantra shastra is more like the samkya in only that it stresses more on the rituals as opposed to pure smakya which prescribes yogic ways (physical ways like holding breath etc) to meditation... correct me if I am wrong | ||
