Mav: Try to think of big picture. External HD's for media serving purpose is pretty raw, esp if you are streaming via PS3. Simple gaa oka HTPC konukko. None can touch this setup. 1. You can expand the storage to atleast 15TB. 2. Watch deshi channels. 3. Streaming hi def content like Bluray [m2ts] file without any stuttering, esp when you RR/FF. 4. You can backup data too. 5. You can stream via SMB [Good]/NFS [Better]/HTTP [Best for Bluray files] This is one time investment. HD konte enni dinaal ostadi?? How many files you can store? Dreamcatcher: As above, buy a HTPC. Set matter. In this db, there's always someone watching you!! |

Dreamcatcher:Oka media server kondam anukuntunna, for pictures/kids videos/movies/mp3s. Grand scheme is to hook it up with ps3 and play the content on TV. Is media server necessary? Can this be accomplished with a network drive as well?
It can be done by a shared network drive, for simple use. You have to copy the media (pictures/music/video) on to the drive and watch on ps3 or any DLNA device. If you go with media server like HP MediaSmartServer (WHS), you will get the benefits of: * Automatic backup of PC/Macs in your home * Collect the media from your PC and copy to itself * Transcode the video to ps3/iPhone supported formats * Built-in iTunes server If you don't need these features, a simple network drive would suffice. |

Maverick:how to make this work?
This works using /NFS or /SMB protocols. * Any NFTS drive attached to windows and shared over network can be seen by ps3. * Connect ntfs drive to a router with USB port supporting NFS (eg: Linksys WRT610n) * Attached the drive to Windows Home Server (WHS) and it is visible by PS3 |

Maverick:1.5TB externl hrd drive konna WD. NTFS undi, want it to format to fat 32 so that ps3 can detect? is it ok? ps3 emanna support for ntfs add chesinda recent ga?
ps3 still does not support NTFS file system, so have to go with FAT32. Maverick:f not i will go ahead and format to fat32 using swissknife software? is that good..any suggestions?
Windows does not create FAT32 partitions more than 32G. So, you need third party tools like swissknife to make bigger partitions. Maverick:is it a good idea to partition it to 500 gb fat32,750 gb ntfs?
yes, it would work. PS3 would see only the fat32 part. But, what are you going to do with the ntfs partition? I don't have any fat32 drives left. I converted everything to nfts. PS3 can see them over network using /SMB protocol. |
