The climax may be not as emphatic as it supposed to be but given the screenplay and dialogues an acting ..i am more than ok with it. | ||

There are some holes in the story , no question about it but it doesnt deserve this kind of ripping in the name of critiquing too. If SK had observed movie closely .. he would seen the single trait that connects 4 stories was escapism. All the main characters in the movie are running from their lives .. AA from his life as cable raju, Manoj running from his what he is i.e a son of a fallen miltary officer, manoj bajpai from country, anoushka from the brothel and ramulu from his helplessness. Krish succeeded to give the actual sense of purpose to his main 3 chars - AA,MM and MB in the climax. Oka telugu movie lo intha seriousness chusindhi ee madhyakalam lo lo ayithe Vedam lone.. I didnt watch Prasthanam though. | ||

What is the movie about - a simple, yet important question, that would shake up the foundations of the movie demanding a valid answer. Every movie, escapist or realistic, needs to get that question answered from its creator. And the delightful paradox is, while escapist movies have great clarity about themselves, it is the realistic ones that end up looking confused, when things do not go right. Coming back to the question, the writer needs to answer to himself that question, before putting pen to paper, as to what the movie should be about. A simplistic explanation that it is about a slice of life explained through a series of vignettes is laughable as it can get. In the multiple threads crisscrossing the movie (with a fine touch that one of the characters is a weaver, in charge of stringing a pattern through disparate strands), an underlying theme, however feeble it is, emerges about redemption - the struggle to set things right in the face of need, greed and prejudice. And seemingly random elements unrelated to the central theme - the kidney story, the prostitute saga, the rock band thread - nudge the main theme (need and hate) on the path of virtue and righteousness? That is one HUGE leap of faith, and untethered suspension of disbelief that the writer incorporates to lend some shred credibility and respectability to his work. It would have served right, had he identified a single trait - need, greed or hatred - that cuts across all sections of the society, and moved his pieces along that single direction, in order for his redemptive thread to have appeared genuine, heartfelt and natural. Instead it comes across as forced, fixed and false, by relying too on his ends to make some sense of the means. Awesome analysis. He shud have ended the weavers/prostitute thread better. Climax is also mediocre with predictable and cheap religion conflicts, especially at the time of sensitive righteousness. | ||
