the lady, a widow opposite my home has her 2 children settled in the USA. eversince i moved into this home, i must have seen her for very short periods, locking and unlocking her doors. she goes 2 USA like she does 2 koti or abids :-) .for the first few years she seemed to enjoy it, looking forward to meeting her son’s and daughter’s family but now she appears vexed. the first visit was when her daughter concieved, she went twice..to take care of her and then look after the baby. after she was done with it, she returned only to get a call from her son…her daughter in law concieved. she was there for six months and returned to her daughter’s home to welcome the news of the daughter’s second pregnancy. 6 months later the lady returned home and looked tired, she says her daughter is not comfortable having the baby in a day care centre…so there she goes, packing her bags again. she was with her for a year this time and came back with stories of how bored she was, how she hates the weather etc and no matter what she will stay put in her own sweet flat. days after this narration her second son asked her 2 book a ticket immediately, as his wife was carrying the second time….and he needs help. a mother can never say no. she must be nearing sixties and says her arms ache while carrying the baby. at her home in hyderabad, she was better off with domestic help and relatives everywhere. the other day she confided that her son was angry and told her that she has 2 come to the US…how could she be partial, handling his sister’s two pregnancies and his wife’s….only one? the boy had issues with his mother in law, so he was comfy having his mom there. the lady wants to carry a maid to america, but is hesitating to ask her children if they are okay with the idea. isn’t it time that these people started thinking about their parents? the airports carry a sorry picture…of grandparents who are barely strong to walk holding their grandchildren, changing diapers, waiting for the next flight to reach home faster…even at this stage in life when they need to relax, they have this additional responsibility of baby sitting! |
